Chanique coming in strong from the cold
TO MANY, the name Chanique Rogers-Bailey may be new, especially in the calypso arena, a virtual newcomer to the calypso stage. Bailey, who sings with the NewYork-based tent Dynamite, has made it straight to the finals in her first attempt at the competition. Bailey, one of two picks from the Dynamite tent, is no newcomer to the stage and singing. She is a lead singer of D Magma Band, which she co-founded with her husband, legendary music producer, musical arranger and keyboardist Adrian Bailey. She is one to watch closely as she comes out of the blocks blazing.
As the wife of the musical director, founder, and former leader of the now-defunct Blacksand and Hottsand, she comes with her own major singing accomplishments.
Chanique is also no stranger to the entertainment world; she has been a Spotlight Artist on BET’s 106 & Park, made an appearance on ABC’s daytime show “The Chew”, alongside the RCE Ensemble.
The NewYork-based Bailey has done backing vocals for composer Aziza Miller, and has performed alongside well-known artistes like former Lady of Chic Alfa Anderson, among others.
The singer and songwriter, who has released her own singles, is coming in strong, and with the backup of her experienced husband, Adrian, who ironically was on keyboards as she performed in the calypso semi’s on Friday, June 26,2026, is one to watch closely, as she can be seen as a threat to defending Calypso Monarch Raeon ‘Maddzart’ Primus.
