Former PM accuses NDP of taking credit for ULP initiatives
FORMER PRIME MINISTER of St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves is accusing the New Democratic Party( NDP) administration of taking credit for the Unity Labour Party’s work.
Gonsalves is also of the opinion that the ruling party is being lethargic towards addressing the rising fuel prices in the country.
He made the criticism on Star FM on May 6, 2026, and reiterated it on May 13, also on Star FM as he spoke of the hardships consumer are facing and will face. In his May 6 comment, Gonsalves said that someone had told him that there was going to be an increase in fuel prices that week.
“I haven’t seen any documentation, but what everybody would know is that the fuel prices are rising all over the world because of the war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz; and it’s a big challenge for us.”
He added that in St Kitts, a gallon of diesel is over $20 and the government owes significant sums of money to Rubis and Sol because these prices are controlled.
