Dancehall song glorifies local murders
A local dancehall artiste has released a song, mocking the gunshot homicides of Layou residents Enrique “Shebu” John, his cousin Perrance Matthews, and their friends Raheem “Bag ah Shots” Guy, and Lamont “Dutchie” Hector.
John and Guy were shot dead on Friday April 10, 2026 at approximately 4:00 p.m. in the Stoney Grounds area when three gun-men pounced on them, shooting them down in the full view of closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV), and members of the public. Another man, a bystander was shot in his foot during the same incident but survived.
Matthews, 19, was shot and killed sometime between Saturday April 11 and Sunday April 12, 2026, while Hector was killed on July 19, 2023 during a nine-man mass shooting in which five people died.
The violence-laden song, known in the music world as a “diss track”, mocks the killing of the men who have died in the ongoing gun violence in the country. It is two minutes 30 seconds long and has been trending on social media.
