Five recipients of Teachers Credit Union scholarship urged to be role models

THE TEACHERS Cooperative Credit Union (TCCU) has added five students to the list of 31 who receive scholarship support through their secondary and tertiary academic journey.

The scholarship were presented at a ceremony on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, and the recipients, who are members from the various mainland and Grenadine branches of the TCCU, were urged not to lose focus over the next seven years considering the financial weight that comes with school preparation.

“We live in a time when the price you pay for something will not necessarily be the price for that same thing tomorrow. There was a time when $200 could purchase all your school textbooks. Today you may only get two or three for that money,” Karen Burgin, the representation from the Ministry of Education said during her remarks.

“Through your hard work and dedication, you have excelled in your primary school exit examination. You have been selected to receive one of these scholarships that will assist with your financial commitments throughout secondary school and college. I urge you not to lose focus as you enter your secondary school of choice ….”

The five recipients are Blossom Mc Calmon, the country’s ninth best performer in the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA); Amara Stowe , the Grenadines recipient; Khalique Peters, the top performing male recipient; Khadeja Trumpet, the Barrouallie branch recipient; and Leah Charles-Scott, the TCCU employee recipient.

Scholarship recipients will be awarded $1,600 for study from form one to form three, and $1,800 from form four through to the second year of study at College.
