Travel Advisors Global celebration
Sandals St Vincent was the hub for the recent celebration to mark Global Travel Advisors Day with one industry expert describing the destination as a stand-out in the Caribbean region.
On May 7, 2025, thousands of travel advisors marked the annual celebration to recognize the role they play in developing and growing the tourism industry. Here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, 65 advisors and other industry professionals convened at the Sandals Resorts, Buccament Bay for three nights to experience first-hand what the destination has to offer as they work to market to potential tourists going forward.
In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT, Karlene Angus-Smith, Associate Director Industry Affairs of Unique Vacations Inc., an Affiliate of Sandals and Beaches Resorts, explained that the celebration in SVG is a partnership with the American Society of Travel Advisors and took just over three months to coordinate.
“We decided that instead of just doing it State-side, wouldn’t it be better if we brought travel advisors that we are celebrating to the destination for them to experience the destination with us. We have brought down over 65 advisors to St Vincent, and for 90 percent of them, this is their very first time to the destination. In that alone, we think it is a success because as a new destination for the Sandals chain, the goal is not just for them to experience the resort but also to experience the destination.”
Highlighting the importance of the work of travel advisors to SVG’s tourism sector, Angus-Smith said in the past, destination SVG was not usually one that travel advisors list but that has been changing.
“Travel advisors are selling the world, but we want to make sure that although they are selling the world, that St Vincent is on the map.
