Port Project back and forth continues

While social media sites like Facebook can at times be used as a source of information and a reference, people have to be careful about what they post and what they believe.

That view was expressed by engineer and Project Co-ordinator on the Kingstown Port Modernisation Project, Lenski Douglas.

Speaking on WE FM on April 27, 2025, Douglas who has a first degree in civil and environmental engineering and a master’s degree in project management, said people must always cross check information with other sources.

His words came on the heels of recent comments, mainly in opposition political circles, that because of a declutching issue at the port project, the facility will be destroyed before year end.

“…there’s nothing wrong with persons using Facebook for communicating purposes, but I think when it gets to the point of being a platform, then it enters into a pretty uncertain territory…” Douglas told radio listeners.

“…you can use social media for a reference, but… you also have to be cautious with regards to your source of information. Cross check the information that you’re having with other sources also, because, you know, professionals can make professional comments on Facebook and so on. So, it comes down to responsibility and the way how you consume the information,” Douglas stressed.
