‘Give us back the petrol station’ – Owia fishers call for relief
Fishers in the North Windward community of Owia have all but given up hope that the Fisheries Complex there would be rehabilitated.
As a consolation, they are making an urgent plea to the government for the petrol station to be brought back into use in an effort to save time and money travelling outside the community to obtain fuel for their fishing vessels.
The Owia Fisheries Complex now stands as an eye sore in the middle of the community where many depend heavily on fishery activities to earn an income.
Fishers who spoke to SEARCHLIGHT during a recent visit to the community said they were more than frustrated with the lack of action being taken to get the Complex back to a functioning standard.
Fishers said they were “tired” hearing of empty plans for the facility.
