Young woman alleges sexual harassment against taxi driver

A young woman has taken to social media to complain about alleged sexual harassment from a taxi driver, which she said left her astonished.

Since, her recent post in which she identified the individual allegedly involved, other women have come out to say that they too were sexually harassed by the same driver.

The young woman, who lives on the windward side of the island, shared her experience in a Facebook post this week.

She said she boarded

the taxi to go to a supermarket and at some point, the taxi driver “put his hands under my clothes, and touched my leg, close to my private”.

Disturbed by this action, the woman said she pushed his hands away, and also refused to pay the fare.

She further alleged that the driver locked the taxi doors and threatened to carry her away. She said she did not report the matter to the police because of the condition of the driver for whom she feel sorry.

She said however, that this was not her first encounter with the driver who she later said “keeps harassing me and always asking me for sex”.

The woman said the situation has now reached a point where it is “overbearing”.

Since her recent post about what allegedly happened, several other females have posted that they have had similar experiences with the driver. One person, said to be a former passengers, said he called her around midnight, wanting to take her for a ride.

Another female commented on the post saying “it’s a habit in him, that is why I don’t ever ride his taxi …”.

Many persons encouraged the young woman to report the matter to the police.

in question is married and has children. People in the area claim that they patronise his business because of his condition, and they see this as a way of supporting him.
