Regional Ferry service ahead of planned start-up date

The partnership with a shipping company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has propelled a regional ferry initiative forward.

The proposed ferry service was first announced in January this year, and should have started up by the end of the year.

However, during a news conference in Barbados on Monday, May 13, 2024, stakeholders announced that the service should begin by September.

On Monday, chairman of the Pieion Group, Dr Andre Thomas said that they have reached a milestone in their plans for a regional ferry service.

He explained that they have entered into a partnership with a shipping company from the UAE which has a fleet of ships and based on the agreement entered into with the UAE company, they are now in the process of acquiring the first set of ships which should be in the region shortly.

When it comes into operation later this year, the regional ferry service will offer daily and weekly round trips around the region, including to and from St Vincent and the Grenadines for passengers and freight.
