Billboards were not vandalised by ULP says Gonsalves

Billboards were not vandalised by ULP says Gonsalves

“Nobody in the ULP will burn their own billboards”, declared leader of the Unity Labour Party and Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves.

He was commenting on radio on the burning of two ULP billboards located at Frenches Gate, one of which displays a photo of Gonsalves with the wording “World Boss”; the other carrying photos of Camillo Gonsalves and Saboto Caesar Parliamentary Representatives for the constituencies of East St George and South Central Windward respectively.

It was the third time the billboards had been burnt.

Gonsalves said there is no concrete evidence as to who burnt the structures but it was not an in-house act.

“Certainly, nobody in the ULP will burn their own billboards; nobody who supports the ULP will burn their own billboards. I’m not saying that anybody who supporting the NDP [New Democratic Party] burnt the billboard. I’m saying what we can reasonably present as facts and evidence.” The damage to the billboards came to light on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, two days after the party held a massive rally at the decommissioned E.T Joshua Airport to mark its 23rd anniversary in office.

Dr Gonsavles further explained that his party’s billboards are not infringing the laws of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).

“Every billboard which the ULP has put up has been put up with the permission of the planning authorities…that’s fact number 1.”

He added that another fact was that the billboards are on private property and that there is no law that states “no billboards up after elections”.

He concluded by saying,“I just want to state certain facts and leave those for the consideration of reasonable people.”
