PM Gonsalves receives honorary degree from Bells University of Technology, Nigeria

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has been conferred with an honorary degree, Doctor of Sciences (D.Sc) Management Sciences, by the Bells University of Technology OTA Ogun State, Nigeria.

The conferment took place on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at a graduation ceremony at the university’s BUPF international conference center at 10 am local time (5 am Eastern Caribbean time).

Yesterday, November 3, Prime Minister Gonsalves delivered the Convocation lecture on the topic “Technological Emancipation of Africa and the Caribbean in the Digital Space and Global Drive for Reparations” which, according to a release from the Agency for Public Information,  “was well received and lauded by university officials”.

Both ceremonies were attended by the university’s chief benefactor, former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo.

The ceremonies on November 3 and 4 also heard addresses from Vice Chancellor Professor Jeremiah Ojediran and other officials of the university and saw over 743 graduates receive awards of first degrees and 190 received higher degrees.

The API release said monetary prizes and awards were also presented.

On receiving the honorary degree, Gonsalves thanked the university for bestowing the award on the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines through him. He also announced that the All Saints Medical School in St Vincent is offering additional tuition scholarships to Nigeria students, valued at USD$10,000 each.

The Prime Minister will leave Nigeria late on Saturday and is expected to arrive in Accra, Ghana on 7 am on Sunday, November 5.
