Families remaining in shelters to receive houses

Twenty houses which were built for residents of Sandy Bay who were displaced by La Soufriere will be handed over on the eve of this country’s 44 th anniversary of Independence.

Deputy Prime Minister Montgomery Daniel said on Wednesday that the houses will be handed over on Thursday October 26, one day before the Independence Day holiday in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Speaking on NBC radio, Daniel who is also the MP for North Windward, said the houses are for families that are still in shelters following the April 2021 explosive volcanic eruptions.

Some 68 houses in North Windward needed to be rebuilt after the eruptions.

Last year, 27 new houses were distributed at Orange Hill, and in September this year, a further 21 houses were handed over at Orange Hill.

The remaining 20 houses to be handed over are for persons still living in shelters.
