Two men sentenced to 13 years for string of thefts in Kingstown

Two men have received concurrent prison sentences for four offences of theft, which were all committed in the span of five days, along with one other offence which was committed in the month prior.

The Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, September 19 sentenced Steven Boucher, 26 and Kemarl ‘Condom’ Small, 32 of Calliaqua and Vermont respectively to a total prison sentence of 13 years and five months after they pleaded guilty to numerous charges of theft. They will however only serve four years as the sentences will run concurrently.

The men were charged that between November 28 and 29, 2022 they stole a quantity of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks valued EC$500.00, the property of Alison Charles of Evesham.

Charles, a vendor, sells drinks from a trolley at Little Tokyo. On November 28, 2022 around 7:30 am, she secured her trolley and fridge with a rope before she left them. When she returned the next day, she noticed that the rope had been cut, the fridge door was open and that a quantity of her juices was missing despite having stocked her fridge the night before.

The matter was reported to the police and investigations led to the two defendants. When the matter was brought before the court, Magistrate John Ballah sentenced the defendants to one year in prison after considering the sentencing guidelines.

They were also charged that between December 8 and 11, 2022 at North River Road, they entered the apartment of Alando Williams of North River Road as trespassers and stole one grey Apple iPad valued EC$695.00, one white and grey Electric Iron value EC$85.00, one Radio Shack Bluetooth speaker valued EC$59.00, one iPhone Charger valued US$12.99, and five boxes of Orchard Juice value EC$39.75, totalling to EC$878.45 and US$12.99.

Another charge was brought against them that between December 9 and 12, 2022 at North River Road, they entered the apartment of Alando Williams of North River Road as trespassers and stole one 40 inch Element Television valued US$500, one Amazon Firestick valued US$54.99 one Oster Toaster valued US$119 and one Oster Blender valued US$50.00, total value US$723.99, the property of Alando Williams of North River Road.

The men were also charged that between the same dates, they entered the St Mary Roman Catholic Church Office as trespassers and stole one grey Dell laptop valued US$250, one Russel Hobbs Kettle valued EC$200, the property of Dennika Peters of Dorsetshire Hill; and one Dell Laptop valued US$200; US$8,157.66, CAD$120, £60 and €50 in cash, the property of St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. They both received custodial sentences of four years for each of these three burglaries.

Small and Boucher were also charged that between December 10 and 11, 2022 at Rose Place, Kingstown they stole one brown and white Ewe Goat value EC$400.00, the property of Kyle Alfonso of Rose Place. They both received custodial sentences of five months for this offence.
