SVG House of Assembly loses Deputy Clerk

Deputy clerk of the House of Assembly, Sharon Nash, passed away last Saturday, May 13, in Trinidad after a brief illness.The late Deputy clerk joined the public service in November, 1989 and served in several ministries and departments.

In October, 2006, she joined the staff of the House of Assembly and rose to the position of deputy clerk in May, 2016 where she served up to the time of her death. Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rochelle Forde paid tribute to the late deputy clerk noting that she has had the pleasure of working with he since her appointment as Speaker.

“Mrs Ash along with the rest of the staff offered an immediate warm welcome. Sharon always wore a smile and enjoyed a good joke where her entire face would light up,” the Speaker recalled. “She was as eager to learn as she was to share her knowledge,” she added. “Professionally, Mrs Nash took pride in exercising her duties, especially when it came to the editing and presenting of type written work”. She added that the late deputy clerk was quite supportive of the new outreach programme “especially given her love for children and young people”. Nash also never failed to give constructive feedback for improvement, Forde said. “Personally, Mrs Nash was always a source of quiet yet firm encouragement.”

The Speaker said that they all at the House of Assembly are saddened at the loss of Nash and express condolences to her family and friends “at this most difficult time”.

A short release issued earlier this week states that “Members of Parliament and Staff of the House of Assembly mourn the passing of our sister and colleague and pray for God’s comfort for her husband, sons, grandson and other family and friends at this time”.
