Baby found dead outside apartment building, woman being questioned by police
A 43-year-old woman is assisting the police with investigations surrounding the death of a six-month-old baby boy whose lifeless body was discovered by a family member in the yard of an apartment building at Belair.
The discovery of the child on Friday, May 5 left many Vincentians grief-stricken after news of the incident began circulating.
One video which has been shared on social media shows the baby’s motionless body, with his face turned to one side, lying in the paved yard.
In the video, screams can be heard as three women, including one who has been identified as the mother of the deceased, surround the body.
In an interview with SVGTV, Superintendent of Police,Trevor Bailey said that the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation. He was therefore unable to go into detail about the incident.
However, he confirmed the baby’s death and noted that a female adult is assisting the police with investigations.
When SEARCHLIGHT visited the scene of the incident, the atmosphere was sombre. A few people who appeared to be there to support of the grieving family remained on the compound.
Since the incident many Vincentians have taken to their social media pages to extend their sympathy to the family and also to express their bewilderment over what could have lead to the baby’s death.
A release from the police said a postmortem examination is expected to be carried out on the body to ascertain the cause of death.
