Central Leeward Secondary School band members to get Junior Savers Accounts at SVGTCCU

The Central Leeward Secondary School (Barrouallie Secondary), won Best Jingle at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ Cooperative Credit Union (SVGTCCU), National Secondary School Bands Showcase last Saturday, March 25.

The Showcase held in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, and the Ministry of Education saw participation from 14 school bands.

Apart from a 15 minute un-judged musical presentation from a pre-selected genre, each participating school was required to create a 40 second jingle with information from the SVGTCCU. This segment was judged and the results were released days later.

One of the main co-ordinators of the Showcase, Rodney Small, told SEARCHLIGHT on Thursday that the Central Leeward Secondary School won the jingle competition.

At the launch of the Showcase on March 9, Chief Executive Officer of the SVGTCCU, Jasmin Huggins-Daly said that each member of the band selected to perform the jingle for the credit union will “receive a Junior Saver’s account with a deposit of $50 in the promotion of good financial habits among our youths by providing a firm a foundation”.

She also said the winning band will get the opportunity as well to record their jingle and to have it featured on one of the Credit Union’s advertisements. Huggins-Daly explained that giving the students a saver’s account is the credit union’s way of promoting good financial habits among youths.

The participating schools were: The Central Leeward Secondary (Barrouallie Secondary); Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia; Thomas Saunders Secondary School; Bishops College Kingstown; Dr J.P Eustace Memorial Secondary; St Vincent Boys Grammar, St Martins Secondary, Bethel High School; West St George Secondary; Intermediate High School; Girls’ High School; North Union Secondary School; St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown; and the Union Island Secondary School.
