Man charged with causing death by dangerous driving granted bail

A man who has been accused of causing the death of another man by dangerous driving in 2022, was granted bail when he appeared in court on March 17.

Asworth Joseph, a 34 year old resident of Choppins appeared at the Serious Offences Court charged that on April 10, 2022 at the Arnos Vale public road, he being the driver of motor vehicle P-8622 did cause the death of Christopher Roberts of Lowmans Leeward by driving the said vehicle dangerously.

Joseph was not required to plea to the indictable charge.

Chief Magistrate, Rechanne Browne granted him bail in the sum of $20,000.00 with one surety. Joseph is to report to the Calliaqua police station every Friday between 6:00 a.m- 6:00 p.m.

Stop notices were ordered placed at all ports of entry and exit, and the defendant is required to submit all travel documents and must have permission to leave the state.

The matter will next go before the court on April 20.

According to the police, reports indicated that on Sunday, April 10, 2022, the defendant was driving a Silver Toyota Corolla along the Arnos Vale public road from Villa towards the roundabout. Upon reaching the vicinity of D-Spot Bar at Arnos Vale, Joseph reportedly collided with Christopher Roberts who was allegedly crossing the street from D-Spot Bar towards the Trotmans building.

Roberts received serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for medical attention. He later died from his injuries.

Roberts’ death was the second road fatality for the year 2022.
