Jomo Thomas is overly ambitious – Gonsalves

Former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Jomo Thomas has been described as being overly ambitious.

“His ambition ran ahead of him,” Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said on Sunday.

Speaking on the ‘Issue at Hand’ programme on WE FM, Gonsalves stated that Jomo’s ego also “ran ahead of him “Gonsalves made the statements while rubbishing claims Thomas had made on radio about Unity Labour Party (ULP) Senator Keisal Peters.

“What he has done here is to go into the gutter,” Gonsalves said.

The Prime Minister reflected that Peters “comes from the bowels of the working class.”

“She is a child of the Education Revolution.”

“She is strong, bright, beautiful black woman,” the Prime Minister said of Peters.

Stating that the senator is also committed and patriotic, Gonsalves argued that “Jomo doesn’t know one single thing about her dermatology.”

“He doesn’t know anything about her skin, he must just shut up.”

The senator’s complexion is now a topic of discussion among some, after a photo of her was posted to social media with a suggestive comment about the colour of her fingers.

Gonsalves admitting that Thomas was once a member of the ULP, “which he left because he couldn’t sustain himself in a party with the aims and objectives of our party.”

Thomas, a well known lawyer and activist is also said to have come from the bowels of the working people.

“But he has gotten so petit bourgeois that he has abandoned all kind of principles for which he would have stood for in an earlier period.”
The Prime Minister noted that there are more serious issues affecting this country, on which we should focus.
