Tri tri catchers to receive assistance

There was a large turnout of persons at Big Lion Bar in Colonarie on Wednesday, May 25 as government began the registration process for persons who catch tri tri at rivers across St Vincent.

This was confirmed by Minister of Agriculture, Saboto Caesar,who told SEARCHLIGHT that after the registration process is completed, government would be assisting the tri tri catchers with items such as water boots, small tents and nets.

“Tri tri catching is part of our culture,” Minister Caesar stated, as he spoke of government’s plan to assist.

In a news release, the Fisheries Division said the registration will run until today, Friday May 27.

Yesterday, Thursday 26, registration took place in Argyle and Arnos Vale and today, Chill Spot at Buccament Bay is the venue for registration for tri tri catchers in south Leeward.

The registration process is for persons who harvest tri tri at Buccament Bay, Argyle, Colonarie, Mt Young and Arnos Vale.

Tri tri catchers from these areas may also sign up for their fishers identification cards at the fisheries division.
