WPP completes another mission in SVG

The World Pediatric Project (WPP) recently hosted neurosurgery and scoliosis missions during which 118 children were seen.

The Neurosurgery visit, which took place in May was headed by Dr Tye and saw approximately 59 children in clinic; seven patients were scheduled for surgery and one patient was referred to the US.

This mission facilitated six patients from St Lucia, 11 from Grenada, two from Dominica, two from St Kitts and 38 from SVG. The mission looked at cases concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system.
The Scoliosis team, which visited in June and was led by Dr Hwang saw a total of 59 children, 12 of which were regional families with the remaining 48 from SVG; 11 surgeries were conducted and five MRIs requested.

The WPP has been working in SVG since 2002 providing surgical and diagnostic services through visiting pediatric teams and children getting services in the US.

“WPP continues to expand in the work that they are doing and is extremely grateful for the growing support and assistance from donors and sponsors, since 2002 they have provided services to over 3000 children in St Vincent and the Grenadines valued at US$24million; 700 of these were at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital and 169 travelled to the US for surgery.

“WPP is committed to their mission in building a brighter further for our children particularly with the Every Child Counts Campaign,” a release from the WPP said.
