SVGSCE presents bursaries to seven students

The St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) School of Continuing Education is not only helping persons better themselves, but they are also helping some students pay for their courses.

Last Thursday, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the institution Sylvia Gould handed out seven bursaries to students.

The bursaries were made possible by donors Vilma Ollivierre, registrar at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College and the Paul’s Avenue based business SVG Tire Sales and Services.

The SVG School of Continuing Education is based at Lower Kingstown Park and seeks to help adults who have work and life experience and want to learn new skills or add to their knowledge in order to get a job or start a business.

Persons may enrol in one of five courses: basic aesthetics, basic garment drafting and construction, caring for the older adult, early childhood education and introduction to auto body repair.
CEO Gould said that the school tries to offer financial assistance to students and this time around they were able to help seven persons with $175 each, money that will go towards paying for their courses.

Two of the recipients, Shannia Hacksaw and Shelly-Ann Durham said on Thursday that they were very happy to receive the help.

“I am very thankful and grateful seeing that the financial aspect has been one of my main issues,” said Hackshaw who is enrolled in the early childhood course.

“I am also very thankful for the bursary because it is a great help to me,” noted Durham who is doing basic aesthetics as part of her plan to open her own business.

At the end of the course, a certificate of successful completion is issued after an assessment and examination. Gould said that the institute is in the process of becoming registered with the local accreditation board.
