Psychiatrist joins Staff at the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre

Dr Dennis Navidad recently joined the staff at the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre as Psychiatrist.

A release from the Ministry of Health said Navidad’s addition to the staff boosts the capacity of the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment to “deliver top quality services to patients with mental health challenges.”

Navidad is a US-trained psychiatrist with over 10 years experience working in the field. He previously served as Associate Professor in Behavioural Sciences at the All Saints University College of Medicine.

Dr Navidad complements the current medical staff at the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre which includes two other physicians, trained in the areas of psychology and psychiatry, as well as a Clinical Psychologist.

The filling of the post of Psychiatrist is the latest measure the government has taken to strengthen and improve the mental health services in this country, the release said.

In December 2016, a renovated Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre was re-opened. The upgrades cost approximately XCD$4.1 million and were carried out under the modernization of the Health Sector Project.
