SVG Nine Mornings Committee to hold meeting tomorrow

Representatives of various community groups, organizations and individuals involved in staging Christmas and Nine Mornings activities, will gather this Saturday, October 13, from 9.30 a.m. at the Peace Memorial Hall as the SVG Nine Mornings Committee steps up preparations for the 2018 Festivities.

The agenda at Saturday’s meeting includes the following items: The Nine Mornings commemorative magazine; Community reports; The revival of the National Caroling Contest; Launch of the festival; New innovative competitions for 2018.

In attendance will be officials from the Ministry of Culture and the SVG Nine Mornings Committee. Cecil Mckie, the minister of culture, is expected to address the gathering.

The SVG Christmas/Nine Mornings festival, which takes place throughout the month of December, will be officially launched on Sunday, December 2 with a street parade, Christmas Concert and Lighting of Heritage Square. It will climax with the Nine Mornings festivities from December 16 to 24.

The Nine Mornings Committee says that already a number of villages have begun their preparations for the 2018 season. In 2017, the festival continued to do well with 47 communities staging activities.

Nine Mornings is one of the leading festivals in St Vincent and the Grenadines with activities spread throughout the country. The Ministry of Culture and the SVG Nine Mornings Committee is anxious to ensure an attractive festival with new direct flights expected to generate larger numbers of visitors and returning nationals coming into the country.

Point Village is the defending National Lighting champion; Stubbs won the Best Nine Mornings Community while Coulls Hill won the Best Christmas Community award.

Nine Mornings, which is held during the month of December annually, remains unique to St Vincent and the Grenadines. The overall theme for the Christmas season is: “Christmas Is We”. While the Nine Mornings festivities will be held under the theme: “It’s Nine Mornings!”
