Lions Club South Flow Public Speaking Competition in full swing

The Lions Club South Flow Public Speaking Competition, which began on September 25 will see the participation of 25 schools in the 2018 competition season.

President of the Lions Club South Junior Bacchus said the zone preliminaries were a success. He expressed satisfaction with the delivery of the students and predicted that this year’s competition will be a success.

He thanked Flow for not only being the sole consistent sponsor but also long-time sponsors of the competition. Flow has been supporting the competition since 1976.

Bacchus said over the years, students who participate in the competition turn out to be exemplary citizens who succeed in many fields of endeavour. He said the competition is also a medium to build self-confidence, and has proven to be a significant way of instilling leadership skills in young people.

Flow’s Marketing and Communications Lead, Nikala Williams, thanked the Lions Club South team for the hard work invested over the years. She stressed that the competition offers a platform for the students’ voices to be heard on various social topics and more so to prove themselves among their peers.

Williams urged the competing students to be serious about the public speaking competition as their confidence and intellect will be put to the test.

The Marketing and Communications Lead said all six finalists will receive a smartphone along with free combo plans, compliments FLOW. The top three finalists will also receive a two-year
scholarship towards their tertiary education; the person who places first will receive $1,600 annually, second place will receive $1,000 annually, and third place will receive $500 annually.

The school of the winner of the competition will receive a prize of $3,000 to be used towards an identified school project.

“The company continues to make significant investments in the further development of the youths of SVG through educational initiatives and promises to continue to transforming the lives of the youths in SVG,” a release from Flow said.

The finals will be held on October 24 at the Methodist Church Hall.
