CPTI celebrates 26th anniversary

The Campden Park Technical Institute (CPTI), celebrated its 26th anniversary in the form of a special assembly, which took place at the school’s auditorium on February 12.

The occasion was attended mainly by the student body, some members of the first batch of teachers who started working there when its doors were opened on February 12, 1992, and a few past students from the first batch as well.

The worship session was conducted by Timothy Myles, with brief remarks given by Kerisa Stephenson, both of whom were among the first students of the institution.

Brief remarks were also given by several past teachers, which included the past principals: Martin Williams and Sharon Joseph; Endall Johnson (senior education officer, TVET) and Kenroy Questelles (acting director of the NQD/SSDA). The exhortation was delivered by Rev Cordelia Gibson, who also started working at the institute when it was opened. Special prayers were offered by Rev Vincent Sobers, the Pastor of Trinity Apostolic Faith Church in Lower Questelles.

The other teachers from that era who attended the assembly were Dwight Lewis (director of the NQD/SSDA), Edlena Adams (quality assurance officer of the NQD/SSDA), Bernadette Slater-Peters (retired principal) and Winston Hazelwood (instructor at the Barrouallie Technical Institute)

Formal classes commenced at the CPTI, formerly the Campden Park Multipurpose Centre, on February 12 1992, under the leadership of Joel John. At that time, the school catered for Grade 7 and 8 students from four all-age schools: Lowmans Leeward Anglican, Questelles Government, Buccament Government and Layou Government.

Over the years the programmes have evolved from basic TVET courses, school leavers’ programme, secondary programme, NVQ Level One programme to the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) Levels One and Two programmes. The CXC TVET programme for the CSEC programmes is also offered to Bethel High School trainees in several subject areas.

“The CPTI takes this opportunity to say a special thank you to all stakeholders who have supported the school over the years. As we grow and move forward, we will make it a priority to continue to produce graduates of the highest quality. We are always striving to fulfill our motto: Meeting the Needs of Our Society,” a release said.
