Supreme Court invites lawyers to apply for silk

Lawyers here, who wish to be appointed Queen’s Counsel, are being invited to submit applications to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC).

According to a notice from the Court, the ECSC is presently receiving Applications for Silk, in accordance with Section 4.1 of the Queen’s Counsel Appointment Protocol. To be considered, applications must be submitted together with the

applicant’s curriculum vitae and an application fee of EC$6,000. Application forms without the fee will be treated as invalid.

Typed applications are to be submitted to the Office of the Chief Justice, Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, 2nd Floor, Heraldine Rock, Bldg., the Waterfront, Castries, Saint Lucia in hard copy, no later than 4 p.m., on 15th January 2018.

Applications forms and the Guidance Notes for Applicants are available on the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court website.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Dame Janice M. Pereira has appointed five persons to serve on the Silk Advisory Committee for a period of two years, effective November 1, 2017.

The purpose of the committee is to review applications for the conferment of Queen’s Counsel and to undertake consultation on the applications and submit a report to the Office of the Chief Justice on the assessment.

Those appointed are: the Hon Justice Davidson Kelvin Baptiste, sitting Judge of the Court of Appeal (chair); the Hon Justice Francis Belle, High Court Judge (member); Mr Michael Gordon, CBE, QC, senior barrister of the ECSC (member); Mr Delano F Bart, QC, representative of the OECS Bar (member); and Sir Howard Fergus, KBE, PhD (lay member).
