NTRC reaches final stages of preliminary judging

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission’s (NTRC) Ideas and Innovations/i2 competition rewards students for their creativity and this week, a number of the nation’s innovators came out in their numbers to take part in the preliminary judging of the competition.

The final round of preliminary judging came to an end this week, with judging being held on Wednesday and Thursday; the finalists will be announced next week Thursday.{{more}}

This week’s judging took place at the National Insurance Services (NIS) conference room and saw students from the various secondary schools present ideas and mobile applications aimed at boosting government agencies and business entities.

Present at Wednesday’s judging session in the idea and mobile categories were students from the George Stephens Secondary School, the Bishop’s College Kingstown, St Vincent Girls’ High School, Mountain View Adventist Academy, Petit Bordel Secondary School, St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown, the Thomas Saunders Secondary School and the Troumaca Ontario Secondary School.

Judging was conducted at the Union Island Secondary School yesterday Thursday, December 15.

On Thursday, November 24, the tertiary round of judging was held at the NIS conference room and saw students from the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Division of Arts, Sciences and General Studies showcasing their ideas and mobile applications.

The groups on Wednesday faced judges Michael John, Anthony McKenzie, Alex Barnwell, Cenus Hinds and Krislin Goulbourne.

The finals of the competition takes place on January 19, 2017.

The competition challenges students to develop and present projects in the form of ideas and mobile applications that can implement new systems or improve existing systems used by the public.

Students have provided ideas and applications that can improve transportation, customer service, agricultural sales, security and traffic, among other things.
