What a joyous beginning to the 2016/2017 school year!

A total of 96 quality school bags were distributed to the students present that morning. Bags were even secured for those 13 students who did not make it to school that morning. The acting head teacher, Hannah Harry, beamed with a magnetic smile when she received three additional backpacks for students who might be transferred to the school during the school year.

Thanks to the US-based charitable organization: “Giving Life A New Meaning (GLAM)”, whose founder and president Isabelle (Lorna) Lewis was on the spot to make the presentations to the students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. She was accompanied by Jennifer Kirby, a member of the organization.

However, before the children received their gifts, Lewis shared her own story about primary school life, as a means of motivating the students. She encouraged the children to take their education seriously and to make proper use of their gifts. Lewis specifically elaborated on the importance of the dictionary, which was included in the package. Students were urged to learn new words and to practise speaking in standard English.

Back in the classroom, teachers engaged students in writing letters of gratitude for Lewis to take back to the US, so that the other members of the organization would know their generosity was greatly appreciated.
