DJ Taurus finds God after serious illness

DJ Taurus finds God after serious illness

Raphael ‘Dj Taurus’ Husbands, known for his hard-hitting style of disc jockeying says that God wants him for a purpose and as a result has given up his job as the purveyor of secular music.

Taurus had a near-death experience that saw his blood pressure rising to such a high level that it enlarged his heart and damaged his kidney. On Saturday, June 4, the DJ went to the doctor for a check-up because he felt sick and was losing weight.{{more}}

In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT yesterday from his Old Montrose home, Taurus said that the doctor checked his vitals and blood pressure, asked him if he was scared, checked them again then walked him to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) right away.

“In the hospital, he talk to the doctors and told them the condition was serious and during an x-ray they saw my heart was enlarged and the kidney damage and they admit me,” said Taurus.

It was while he was a patient at the MCMH that he eventually found salvation from a source he least suspected.

Husbands said that while he was warded at the hospital undergoing tests and treatment, he was approached by a woman who worked there, one Diane Cupid from Georgetown, whom he never knew was a Christian.

“…She saw me on the ward and then I was moved to a private room and she said she had she mind on me all the time. I never knew she was a Christian and on Friday, June 10, she had to clean my room and she told me she have something to tell me and she asked me if I give my life to Christ and she quote Proverbs 24,” recalled Husbands, who said that the scripture opened his eyes and made him see the wrong in his lifestyle.

“….the scripture spoke about the same thing I was doing; I was ignoring God all the time so that scripture just touch me in a way and I start to cry and I said to myself God want to use me because that blood pressure I had I could have been a dead man and God didn’t kill me; he save my life for a purpose and I just have to praise God for that.”

Husbands said at times, we all are called to God, but many times we ignore the call, but he is tired of ignoring the call and he has finally accepted Christ.

“Sometimes I would go on Facebook and see a lot of funerals. Like rest in peace this person and rest in peace that person, so my mind kind of rest back on those things,” said Taurus.

He revealed that after he accepted Christ as his personal saviour, he experienced his first miracle.

“Before I accept Christ, blood tests were showing that my kidney levels were not levelling off, but after I accept, the blood test came back and I was alright. So it was an instant miracle for me and I just praise God for that.”

Husbands said that he has plans to attend the Kingstown Baptist Church with his girlfriend, who has accepted Christ as well.

The DJ, who is known for his unique style and talking skills, whose expertise is sought after the world over, started his career in the 90s and is one of a handful of local DJs who attract bookings overseas.

He has plied his trade in the UK, Canada, USA, Virgin Islands, St Lucia and has upcoming bookings for Notting Hill Carnival, High Wycombe, Caribana, Labour Day, Virgin Islands and California, all of which he has cancelled because of his new-found faith in God and his belief that he was working for the devil.

“Music can lead people to the devil, because it influences people; people sometimes get violent and I don’t think that is a good thing when you playing music. Some people stay normal and some get violent, so I consider it as I was playing music for the devil, working for the devil and music with dirty words and slackness them is tune I was playing. A lot of times I play in dance and plenty fight,” stressed Taurus.

He said that many persons have been enquiring as to how he will make his living, but he is not worried about that.

“I give my life to Christ and God will provide, the most high will provide for me. I know he will provide, I believe, I have faith and I know he will provide for me,” said Taurus who is employed at Xtreme FM as a DJ and who is hoping that he can start a Christian programme at the station.

To the youths, Taurus offered: “…just pray. God is calling you, but you have to answer and if you don’t answer, he might do you something like he do me. He put me down so I can answer to him, so I encourage the youth to go to church, pray and believe in God because with he anything is possible.”

On Sunday, Taurus posted a one-minute 42, second long video on Facebook, informing persons of his move to Christ and according to him, that video gained the most views and comments that he has ever received for any of his posts. The video has over 37,000 views and over 700 comments.

“…that’s the only thing I ever put up on Facebook that have so much views and comments,” said Taurus, who a few days ago released a song for Vincy Mas 2016.

Taurus, a father of three and the brother of Shane ‘Hypa 4000’ Husbands, said that he would love if his brother could join him on his journey. He said that he is hoping that he can get Gospel music into Vincy Mas, as he has seen done in places like the United States, where trucks playing gospel music take part in carnival.

“I could bring a gospel truck and make people know the gospel in carnival, because I see them things happen overseas. God will give me the strength and I have received support from my brother and I would love him to come across, because that is the way to go. The time is drawing near and God is coming for the world, you could see the signs.”

He said that during his ordeal, his blood pressure reached, “200 something over 100 something,” and he knew that God was sending him a message.

“God didn’t kill me, he just put me down; the tests were serious and when I give my life to God, I didn’t have any fear again,” explained Taurus, who is originally from Sion Hill, but now lives in Old Montrose.

“God turn around my life…now I work for the Lord,” stressed Taurus.(LC)
