1,791 students registered to write CPEA today
The third cohort of local Grade Six students sitting the Caribbean Primary Assessment (CPEA) will be examined today Friday, May 20, in 17 centres throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines.
This year, 1,791 students have been registered for the CPEA. There are 877 females and 914 males registered.{{more}}
The CPEA is an examination administered by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) for students exiting the primary cycle of their education.
The students will sit multiple choice papers in Mathematics, English and Science as the final component of the CPEA. The multiple choice component of the assessment will comprise 60 per cent of their final score. Each Multiple Choice paper consists of 50 items. The time allocated per paper is one hour and 15 minutes.
The students have all completed the first part of their assessment â the internal assessment (School Based Assessment) â and their scores and the samples of their work have been forwarded to and received by the Caribbean Examinations Council. This internal assessment contributes 40 per cent of their final score. During the month of March, education officers conducted the final quality assurance assessment of studentsâ work and of their teachersâ scoring in order to ensure that the quality standards demanded, were met.
The overall pass rate of the CPEA in 2015 was 80.90 per cent. The pass rate by sex was 73.31 per cent for males and 88.60 per cent for females. All students who sat the exam in 2015 were placed in secondary schools. This is in conformity with the policy of Universal Access to Secondary Education.
The results of the CPEA are expected to be published in June. The Ministry of Education will conduct the secondary school placement exercise as usual.
