Skinny Fabulous throws weight behind WPP

International soca artiste Gamal “Skinny Fabulous” Doyle is the face of the World Pediatric Project’s (WPP) first major fund-raising event outside of the United States.

Armed with the acronym SOCA (Saving Our Children Allover), Doyle will host the all-inclusive event, scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 27, at Flowt Beach Bar, Ratho Mill, St Vincent and the Grenadines.{{more}}

Simon Carey, chief development officer for WPP in the region, says that the event, which he expects to be an annual affair, is intended to raise funds for sick children in St Vincent and the Grenadines, the OECS, and other Caribbean territories.

He said that the event mirrors a similar experience that takes place in the United States.

“In the US there is what is called “Rock and Heal,” a concert where rock ‘n’ roll artistes come together and raise funds for charity. Here in St Vincent we are using one of our biggest soca stars to bring the people together in a

great initiative that would benefit not only the little ones here, but also elsewhere.

“We intend to do similar events such as this here in St Vincent, as well as the other islands as time goes by. Seeing that SVG is the heart of WPP in the region, we decided to start it here, and who best can host this for us than the main man himself, Skinny Fabulous,” Carey said.

Carey indicated that Skinny was on board at the first word and gave his commitment to work with the WPP for this and future activities organized by the WPP.

According to Carey, Skinny was more than willing as soon as he heard that Dr Bahrati Datta was a part of the project. Datta was Skinny’s pediatrician when the mega star was a tiny tot, and now offers her services to his own daughter.

“Skinny is a team player.

“He was ready from the get-go.

“We’re hoping that other artistes, business men and women, as well as the general public would turn out and show support for SOCA, even though it’s outside of the more lively carnival season. It’s going to be one of a kind experience; you get to eat and drink as much as you like, and you get to play a part in saving the life of a child,” Carey stated.

Tickets for the event are available at leading business places around the island or at the WPP SVG office at Bentick Square (Hospital Road).

Persons may also get more information by visiting the local organization’s social media sites (Facebook: World Pediatric Project SVG, Instagram: worldpediatricprojectsvg, and Twitter WppSvg).

The WPP last week wrapped up a series of consultations and surgeries at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, where seven urological practitioners from the United States attended to close to 40 children, performing surgeries on seven Vincentians and five from around the region.
