Generation Next Inc hosts Back to School Fair in North Leeward

Charity group Generation Next Inc on Saturday, August 29, staged its first Back to School Fair at the Petit Bordel playing field in North Leeward.

The event was attended by close to 100 children, most of whom are from the Petit Bordel area.{{more}}

As part of the activities, children participated in a series of sporting disciplines, including football and track and field, while the younger children flocked to bouncing castles and enjoyed snacks geared at keeping their energies high.

According to one of the event organisers Kaylon Hooper, the event was lauded as a successful start to many more back to school fairs for children in North Leeward.

“Preparing children for back to school was the main focus of this event, and every year we are going to make this a priority. The fair was the first of its kind in the community of Petit Bordel and I am glad the children and parents were happy to be a part of the event. It can only get bigger in the years to come,” Hooper noted.

Hooper also thanked sponsors who contributed to the back to school fair. The event was also used to recognize two special Olympians from the North Leeward area, gold medallist Loggie Loraine and Cuthbert Micheal, who recently returned from the Special Olympics Games in Los Angeles, USA.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of school supplies to the children. On hand to make a contribution to the event was Carlos James, the Unity Labour Party candidate for the constituency.

“I am happy to pledge my support and commitment to this initiative. I know we can do more, and so we will leverage our partnerships to ensure that even more children benefit from this event in the coming years,” James said.

According to him, the business community should play a greater role to assist children from vulnerable areas such as North Leeward.

“I continue to emphasis the role of the business community and their corporate social responsibility, which is a broader commitment to improving the quality of life for persons from vulnerable areas. I want to commend businesses that are making this commitment, and I want to encourage more businesses to get on board to assist rural communities,” James said.

“I am going to work in the interest of the people of North Leeward to provide greater opportunities, especially for our children.”

The second leg of the back to school fair continues in Spring Village this weekend, while other communities will receive donations.
