2008 National Scholar Jason Haynes earns PhD from University of Durham
National Scholar Jason Haynes has been awarded a PhD by the University of Durham.
Haynes earned his doctorate in Law in July 2015 on a Commonwealth International Scholarship.
His area of study was International European and Commonwealth {{more}}Caribbean Law and Practice on Human Trafficking. He was also awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the Faculty of Education at the Durham University in July, 2015.
Dr Haynes, a 2008 national scholar, obtained his LLB (Hons) degree (First Class Honours) from the Faculty of Law, Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies in 2011. During his tenure at UWI, he received several awards: the Sir Gaston Johnson Award in Criminal Law UWI (2009); Sir Fred Phillips Award in Law and Legal Systems UWI (2009); First Place – Best Advocate and Best Written Memorial, Law Society Moot Court Competition in 2011.
He proceeded to the University of Nottingham to read for the LLM, which included International and Comparative Law; International Investment Law, Corporate and Insolvency Law; Banking Law, Financial and Monetary Law; Copyright Law; Law of Development and Counter-Terrorism. He completed the Masters in 2012, with distinctions in each area (2011-2012), which was funded by the British Chevening Scholarship.
Haynes was a research fellow and a senior tutor in Applied Research Methods in Law at Durham. He proceeds this week to the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica to pursue the Legal Education Certificate. While there, he will lecture at the Faculty of Law of the University of the West Indies in Constitutional Law, Human Rights Law and Family Law.
Dr Haynes is attached to the law firm of Baptiste & Co as an international research consultant. He is a former student of the St Martinâs Secondary School and a graduate of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Division of Arts, Science and General Studies.
