New Democratic Party is very worried – Gonsalves

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves says he and his Unity Labour Party (ULP) are stronger today than they were in 2010.

“I can tell you, the ULP is stronger in August 2015 than we were in August 2010. I will tell you too, the NDP is weaker in August 2015 than they were in August 2010. The Comrade{{more}} has a wider lead over [opposition leader Arnhim] Eustace as to who people prefer to be prime minister now than in August 2010. We know that because we have been doing scientific testing of the waters.”

He was at the time addressing journalists at a rebranding ceremony of his party’s headquarters at Richmond Hill, on Wednesday.

Gonsalves, who is seeking a fourth term as prime minister, said a pre-launch of the campaign will take place at a rally on Sunday at Rabacca.

He said the party’s confidence comes from “scientific testing,” along with their own observations and reports and the fact that they have an “excellent slate of candidates.”

He said he expects a “huge” victory for his party in the next general elections, constitutionally due by March 2016, and that he knows NDP supporters are worried.

“They are very, very worried. We, however, must not be complacent… Once on election day, we have our ‘get out the vote’ machinery in order, there’s nothing like the NDP could come close to us. Nothing at all…

“We will defend our record. We have an excellent record to defend. We have a good vision, policies and programmes – what we are doing now and for the future. And when it comes to the future, Eustace has already made it plain to the whole world if you want to know what is to happen in St Vincent and the Grenadines for the future, ‘ask Ralph’.”(KW)
