Vincentian heads Caribbean Public Services Association

Elroy Boucher, president of the Public Service Union of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), is now president of the Caribbean Public Services Association (CPSA).

Boucher assumed leadership following the successful conclusion of the 45th CPSA conference, which was held in Trinidad and Tobago from July 18 to 24, 2015.{{more}}

Boucher, who is also the third vice-president of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation, with specific responsibility for tournaments, noted that his latest regional elevation adds another dimension to his administrative acumen.

The CPSA is the umbrella body of 19 public service unions.

The CPSA’s conference had as its theme: “Refocus, Reinforce and Reinvest towards stronger Caribbean Public Service Unions.”

The programme of activities during the week included a women’s forum, future leaders forum, men’s caucus, and the business session. More than 130 delegates from across the region attended the conference.

The women’s forum was geared towards the empowerment of women within the Public Service Unions throughout the region through training workshops and focussed on ways in which women could be encouraged to take up more active roles in leadership positions within the Unions and becoming more proactive against social issues which affect society on a whole.

Following the conclusion of the different forums, Akisha Henry of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ delegation emerged as the chairperson for the Future Leaders Committee, while another Vincentian, Jillian Primus, emerged as chairperson for the Women’s Committee.

The Public Service Union of St Vincent and the Grenadines was represented by a delegation of eight persons – Elroy Boucher, Aubrey Burgin, Jillian Primus, Sylvester Lynch, Akisha Henry, Javell Frank, Des Rita Gilkes and Joan Williams.

The next annual conference will be held here in St Vincent and the Grenadines in July of 2016.(RT)
