Sion Hill youths receive back to school assistance

The Sion Hill Overseas Based Residents and Friends Secondary School Scholarship Initiative has this year presented 11 bursaries to students in Sion Hill and surrounding areas who passed the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA).

The initiative, which was started last year as a means of giving back to the community, held its prize-giving ceremony at the Sion Hill Village hard court on July 23.{{more}}

The main coordinator of the programme, Ideisha Jackson, thanked the persons who contribute annually to this venture.

She stated “it’s amazing how a few persons can making a difference by giving.”

The children were all given bursaries of between $150 and $400.

The donors for this year’s intiative are: Garth Collis (Canada), Brian “Japs” Glasgow (SVG), Robert Dickson (USA), Venton “Fuzzy” James (Tortola), McArthur Robertson from Robertson’s Surveys (SVG), Roxann Chambers (USA), Shawn “Pewee” Hewitt, Dugal Williams (England), Dornet Hull (SVG) and Jujube Bookstore.

Jackson reiterated her thanks to this year’s donors and to all who have contributed to the intiative, including Searchlight newspaper and NBC radio.

“It really takes a village to raise a child so we look forward to your continued assistance,” Jackson said.
