Security measures in place for Carnival shows at Victoria Park
The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) has put the proper security measures in place to ensure that persons who attend shows at the Victoria Park have proper security for their vehicles.{{more}}
This, after it was reported that between Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, some 17 vehicles were broken into, as persons took in a show put on by the Carnival Bands Association (CBA) at the Victoria Park.
The vehicles were parked in the Fernside area, outside the St Josephâs Convent Kingstown and in the Rose Place area, outside the Sanitation Department.
Addressing the issue at a CDC press briefing last Tuesday at the Victoria Park, chief executive officer (CEO) of the CDC Ashford Wood said that they have been placed on high alert as it relates to the unlawful acts.
ââ¦Too many break-ins now, this is not good enough. The CDC has been and still are in constant discussion with the security forces, both private and police,â said Wood, who added that the CDC was not part of the show on Saturday, but has taken heed.
âI can give the public the assurance that there will not be a single break-in to any vehicle for the Miss SVG show (Saturday May 30). The police are ready,â said Wood, who also pointed out that no vehicles were troubled during the CDCâs launch of Vincy Mas 2015 at Victoria Park on May 2.
He noted also that persons who do not feel safe about parking on the roadside can pay $10 and park in one of two parking lots in the area.
ââ¦but for those who cannot afford or prefer to park on the roadside, I would like to give the public the assurance that the RSVG police force is on the ball and your vehicle would be safe. That is an assurance from the CDC and we not speak words lightly,â said Wood.
