17 Police Officers graduate from NCO Development Course

Seventeen Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) are better equipped to execute their roles as middle managers after participating in a two-week development course, which concluded {{more}}on Friday, May 15.

At the closing ceremony, Commandant of the RSVGPF Training School, Assistant Superintendent of Police Thecla Andrews said the institution has a mandate to provide adequate quality training for the members of the organization to assist their development and effectiveness as police officers.

Andrews said 16 Corporals of Police and one Sergeant of Police participated in the NCOs Development Course, which commenced on May 4, 2015. Subject areas covered included: station management, classification of crimes, effective communication, giving evidence, human trafficking, leadership, chain of custody and handling of exhibit, and NCO duties.

“I can stand here and say with confidence that all the NCOs who are present here today, who have completed this course, who have accepted the training positively for what it was meant to accomplish, can firmly stand and say they have received adequate knowledge and information that if used appropriately can improve their confidence and ability in the execution of their duties,” said Andrews. She stated that she hopes the officers will use their skills to be better leaders and managers, as well as be in a better position to make decisions professionally and personally.

Sergeant 70 Billingy, a participant of the course, delivering remarks on behalf of his colleagues, said: “This course was a very timely one because it comes at a time when society is changing. It is of great importance that we as middle managers are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills that will enable us to better manage subordinates.”

He further stated that as the group departs to their various departments and stations, he is confident that the friendship and brotherly love that was shared on the course will be maintained and provide the basis, not just for social integration, but also for professional interaction.
