Pedestrian struck by ambulance in Kingstown

A man had to receive medical attention on Tuesday, after he was struck by an ambulance which was on its way out of Kingstown to pick up a patient.

The accident occurred on Grenville Street in the vicinty of the gas station when, according to a report received by the Administrator of the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH), a pedestrian misjudged the distance of the ambulance in question.{{more}}

Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT, MCMH administrator Grace Walters said: “The report reaching me from the ambulance driver stated that the gentleman, after the incident, he immediately got up and then he stated that he heard the ambulance approaching, but he thought the ambulance was approaching from the market side.”

She also claimed that the pedestrian acknowledged that he was at fault for the accident.

“He thought he had time to cross.”

Walters, who declined to provide the name of the pedestrian, said that he was immediately taken to hospital, and attended to by senior medical officer Dr Lennox Adams before being discharged that same day.

She further added that the pedestrian did not sustain any serious injuries, and to her knowledge the matter was reported to the police.

However, Inspector Hawkins Nanton, officer in charge of the Royal SVG Police Force Public Relations and Complaints Department, said that no official report of the matter has been lodged at the Traffic Department.

Additionally, the hospital administrator said that she cannot recall any previous instance where an ambulance has been in an accident involving a pedestrian. (JSV)
