New home to be constructed for family affected by Christmas floods
A non-profit organization in Canada has raised money to construct a house for a family which was affected by the Christmas floods of 2013.
St Vincent and the Grenadinesâ (SVG) Consul General to Canada Fitzgerald Huggins, representing the SVG Ad hoc Relief Committee{{more}} in Toronto, will hand over a cheque valued at Cdn $38,078 to the Lions Club St Vincent South to construct a home for a family affected by the December 2013 floods.
The SVG Ad hoc Relief Committee comprises leaders of Vincentian community groups in Canada.
The handing over ceremony takes place today, April 21, at the Ministry of Housingâs conference room at 10 a.m. The ceremony will also see the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding among the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines, through the Ministry of Housing, the Lions Club of St Vincent South, and the Canadian Non-Profit Organization.
The Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines has provided the land for the construction of the house and the home will be constructed by the Housing and Land Development Corporation (HLDC).
The monies were raised by the Canadian Non- Profit Organization to construct a two-bedroom concrete dwelling house, which will be completed by August 2015, for a family affected by the December 2013 floods. Earlier this year, the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) and the Lions Club St Vincent South identified Florestine Spring as the recipient of the house.
The ceremony will be addressed by Minister of Housing Montgomery Daniel, Consul General to Canada Fitzgerald Huggins, a representative from the HLDC and the president of the Lions Club St Vincent South, Lion Michael John.(API)
