PCCU donates flat screen TV to staff of Owia Health Centre

The Police Cooperative Credit Union (PCCU) has made good on its promise to the staff attached to the Owia Health Centre, with a donation of a TLC 32 inch flat screen television.

On Friday, January 16, representatives of the PCCU, which is celebrating{{more}} its 12th anniversary, journeyed to Owia to make the donation.

Vice-president of the PCCU Collin May delivering remarks, recounted that on August 22, 2014, while on a membership drive to the windward side of the island, members of the PCCU made a stop at the Owia Health Centre and noticed a sign requesting assistance for the repair of a television.

According to May, members of the PCCU interacted with the staff and gladly agreed not only to the request, but to go further by purchasing a new television for the comfort of the staff and visitors to the health facility.

May further stated that one of the objectives of the PCCU is to extend its services to all who need it, whether that person is a member or potential member. May expressed the hope that the television will not only bring a form of recreation to the staff, but education as well, by keeping staff, patients and visitors up to date with current issues taking place globally.

May also encouraged the staff to take care of the television and to cherish it as if it were their own personal item, so that it could last for a very long time.

Accepting the donation on behalf of the Ministry of Health and her colleagues at the Owia Health Centre, staff nurse Marie Browne thanked the PCCU for the donation. She gave the assurance that the television would be used for educational purposes and entertainment for clients who visit the centre.

Browne reported that the Health Centre had previously been given a television, but due to the effects of the ‘elements,’ the television had stopped working. She said that they tried raising funds to repair the television, but to no avail, and are indeed grateful for the assistance from the PCCU. Her colleagues — Yvette Greaves, a nursing assistant, and Isilma Lorraine, community health aide — were also present during the ceremony.

Members of the PCCU also took the opportunity to pay a visit to some of the families in Fancy who lost their loved ones in the tragic accident which occurred at Rock Gutter on Monday, January 12, 2015, during which five schoolchildren died. Two children are still missing and others are injured.
