Cecil Charles no longer in charge at NSC

Cecil Charles has been formally dismissed as manager of the National Sports Council.

Charles received his letter of dismissal last Friday, signed by the National Sports Council’s chair – Jules Anthony.{{more}}

“The Board of Directors of the National Sports Council took the decision to recommend termination of your service as Manager, a decision accepted by Cabinet,” the letter, dated November 24, stated.

Before being fired, Charles was sent on further leave last month, immediately after returning from vacation.

The basis for Charles’ initial suspension was his having granted permission to Team Athletics SVG to erect a container which would have provided storage space at the back of the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

“Upon proceeding on vacation leave, you failed to brief the acting manager or other senior staff on the matter,” Anthony’s letter said.

Charles was ordered by the Board of Directors of the NSC to write a report on his granting the national track and field body such accommodation.

However, Charles’ report did not meet the approval of the Board, according to Anthony’s letter.

“The tone and content of your letter dated November 6th, reflected your disrespect for

the Board,” Anthony wrote.

Charles was presented with a cheque which represented his final payment for his services.

He assumed duties in September 2012, taking over from then manager – Osbourne “ OB” Browne. (RT)
