International Commercial Arbitration Training course hailed a success

The One-Day International Commercial Arbitration Training Course held here on Monday, November 3, has been declared a great success.

A release from the St Vincent and the Grenadines Bar Association said the course was the second training workshop held by the Caribbean Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators this year. {{more}}It attracted 23 participants drawn from the Legal Profession, Accounting Profession, Engineering Profession, and Management Consulting Profession.

The course was facilitated by the chair of the Caribbean Branch Dr Christopher Malcolm, vice-chair and officer in charge of Education and Training for the Branch, Shan Greer and CIARB Caribbean Branch Executive Committee member – Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) Stuart Kennedy.

At a cocktail reception held later in the evening, the Interim Chapter Committee of the SVG Chapter of the (Caribbean Branch) of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators was named. It includes Stuart Kennedy, FCIArb – chair; René M Baptiste, ACIArb – vice chair; Mikhail Charles, ACIArb – secretary; Joan Millington, chartered accountant-treasurer; Douglas Williams, ACIArb – PRO, with Karl John, MCIArb (retired), Nicole Sylvester and Euchrista St Hillaire Bruce-Lyle (both mediators) as Committee members.

The Chapter Status application is expected to receive approval from UK Headquarters in the next few months. It has the endorsement from the Caribbean Branch.

The SVG Bar Association, which co-ordinated the Training Day, expressed thanks to the Association’s treasurer Patina Knights, secretary Patricia Marks, Executive Committee member Mikhail Charles, as well as the staff of the law firm Baptiste and Company for their support of the Association’s project.
