Rotary Village Doctor programme caters to over 250 persons

medical practitioners, working on behalf of the Rotary Village Doctor programme, saw over 250 persons.

The Club’s public relations officer Shafia London-Williams said that on Sunday, November 9, experienced medical professionals catered to the needs of the persons that visited the free clinic{{more}} which was held at the South Rivers Methodist Church.

She said that the team, which was made up of Dr Hughes Dougan, Dr Rosemary Boyle, Dr Kenneth Onu, Dr Conrad Nedd, Dr Francois Truchot and pharmacists Juanita Chance, Beverly Mason and Shevorn Cameron, gave free medical services and medication (in some instances) to adults and children.

“The biannual programme saw over 99 per cent of patients having their prescriptions filled free of cost, while over the years, the project has assisted thousands throughout the island from Fancy to Spring Village and the Grenadine islands of Bequia and Canouan,” said London-Williams.

She added, “Over the years, the Rotary Club of St. Vincent has fundamentally impacted the development of the communities throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines while operating under the umbrella of Rotary International, which is the world’s first service club organization.”

The local club is known for assisting with humanitarian projects, including rebuilding and providing medical assistance in Grenada after hurricane Ivan in 2005, the Fancy Water Project, where pipe borne water was brought to the isolated rural village of Fancy for the first time in 1994 and the Fancy Rotary Express, a community bus providing transportation for villagers.

Some of the organizations that contributed to Sunday’s activity were Shepherd’s Trading, Q Care Pharmacy, Corea’s Pharmacy/Cosmetics, Premium Products Ltd, S G DeFreitas and the Trinity Medical School.
