CRD Diabetes Awareness Week hailed a success

CRD Holdings Ltd was pleased with the outcome of Diabetes Awareness Week, held within the group of companies on Canouan.

Following on the success of International Hypertension Week in April 2014, a second week of events was held over the week August 23 – 30, 2014. This week of events focused on increasing awareness and understanding of diabetes.{{more}}

Events held during the week included urine testing to check glucose levels, sending daily email messages promoting consciousness of the disease, posters, a dialysis discussion with Pauline Garabedian-Defreitas (director of Health Solutions), puzzles and crosswords on noticeboards and the grand finale a barbecue and walk.

At the end of the week, 64 employees were tested and one employee was diagnosed with very high glucose levels.

Participants in the week of events learned several things, including the fact that the importance of diabetes lies primarily in the side effects of the disease. Poorly controlled diabetes can lead to many complications such as heart disease, kidney disease, eye problems and others, leading to limb amputation and sexual dysfunction.

The Health Team, consisting of Dr Barnes, Maridonna Burgin, Maggie Dalton and Sidroy Lowman, hopes that the facts shared can be used to promote a healthier and safer Canouan community. Persons can look out for more health related events and are encouraged to participate.
