Intermediate High School enters second week of closure

While most educational institutions in St Vincent and the Grenadines enter the second week of the 2014/2015 academic year, the students of the Intermediate High School (IHS) are still at home.

When SEARCHLIGHT visited the school, located at McKie’s Hill, {{more}}yesterday, only workmen carrying out construction and repairs were present.

When contacted yesterday, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Nicole Bonadie-Baker said she was unable to say when exactly school would re-open, as she was about to enter a meeting with BRAGSA, to determine what the delay was, and how much more time it would require to complete repairs.

These works included construction of a septic tank/soak-away, repairs of damaged timber walls, the replacement of aluminium louvres, and other minor repairs.

SEARCHLIGHT reported on Tuesday, September 5, that the IHS students had been granted a one-week extension on their summer vacation to facilitate essential repairs to the school.

In a report sent to the Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves by Bonadie-Baker, the repairs were estimated to be completed “during the week of September 1, 2014”.
