Government names new Deputy Consul General to New York

The post of Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General of St Vincent and the Grenadines in New York, which has been vacant since February this year, has been filled.

Sehon Marshall, a former co-host on the Morning Scoop programme on Star Radio, {{more}}has been recommended to the Public Service Commissions to fill the post effective September 1, 2014.

Marshall, who recently completed a Master of Arts degree in International Relations and Affairs at Khazar University in Azerbaijan, updated his LinkedIn profile a few days ago to reflect this new appointment.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, in an interview yesterday, told SEARCHLIGHT that Marshall is the person whom the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recommended for the position, but he did not know if all the formalities of the appointment had been completed.

“I don’t know if he has actually been appointed by the Public Service Commissions yet, so it is difficult for me to say that, but he is the person who … the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recommended and I have accepted the recommendation. The formal processes have to be gone through,” Gonsalves said.

Marshall is a former chair of the National Telecommuni­cations Regulatory Commission (NTRC), a former chair of the National Tripartite Committee on the Economy and a former director of the International Financial Services Authority (IFSA). He also served for a few months as business facilitation officer at Invest SVG. He was managing director of e.Com Institute for six years.

A former teacher, Marshall came to national attention in 2009, when he began co-hosting the Morning Scoop radio programme on Star Radio, a radio station owned by the governing Unity Labour Party. Marshall co-hosted the programme with Anthony Dennie until February 2012, when he left to take up the position of business facilitation officer at Invest SVG.

The last person to hold the post of deputy consul general at the Consulate in New York was Edson Augustus, who was recalled in February this year.

Augustus was recalled with immediate effect after, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Camillo Gonsalves, the Ministry received on February 5, 2014, “certain reports that Mr Augustus may have been acting beyond the scope of his authority and in a manner that was not in concert with the interest of the Government and people of St Vincent and the Grenadines.”
