Improvement in pass rate for CAPE recorded

This year’s Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) students have recorded a higher overall pass rate than those who entered last year.{{more}}

In a press release from the Ministry of Education, figures indicate that the pass rate for 2014 is 87.71 per cent – in comparison to last year’s 83.47 per cent.

It is the highest pass rate recorded since 2009, when it was at 89 per cent.

Of the 19 subject areas that candidates were entered in, French Unit 1 and Unit 2 recorded a 100 per cent pass rate.

The following subjects recorded pass rates of 90 per cent and over: Accounting Unit 1 (95.12 per cent), Biology Unit 1 and Unit 2 (96.49 and 95.35 per cent), Caribbean Studies Unit 1 (94.29 per cent), Chemistry Unit 1 and Unit 2 (94.64 and 93.33 per cent), Communication Studies Unit 1 (94.4 per cent), Computer Science Unit 1 and Unit 2 (96.83 and 96.15 per cent), Environmental Science Unit 1 and Unit 2 (96.43 and 97.92 per cent), Geography Unit 1 and 2 (92.59 and 97.62 per cent), Literatures in English Unit 1 and 2 (93.75 and 94.44 per cent), Management of Business Unit 1 and 2 (93.75 and 98 per cent) and Physics Unit 2 (90.7 per cent).

The following subjects recorded pass rates of 80 per cent and over: Economics Unit 2 (80 per cent), Law unit 1 (88.64 per cent), Physics Unit 1 (84.85 per cent), Pure Mathematics Unit 2 (80 per cent), Sociology Unit 1 and Unit 2 (85.29 and 84.78 per cent) and Spanish unit 1 and Unit 2 (84.64 and 88.89 per cent).

Law Unit 2 recorded a pass rate of 78.26 per cent, Economics Unit 1 recorded 77.55 per cent, History Unit 1 and Unit 2 – 58.82 and 74.07 per cent, Accounting unit 2 – 65 per cent, and Pure Mathematics Unit 1 – 46.99 per cent.

Of the 531 candidates entered, 471 were from the SVG Community College and 60 were private candidates.
