Judges pick 22 for Calypso semis

The 22 persons who will compete in the calypso semi-finals scheduled for this Friday, June 27, have been named.{{more}}

The singers, who were selected based on their performances in the calypso preliminaries are: from the Dynamites Calypso Tent – Earl ‘Exposer’ Isles, John ‘The Truth’ Dougan, Dennis Bowman; from the Graduates Calypso Tent – Glen ‘Bump I’ Richards, Aurella ‘Queen B’ Beache, Michael ‘Mercy’ Ollivierre, Maxwell ‘Tajoe’ Francis, St Clair “Mitch” Lewis; from the P/tani Calypso Tent – Javelle ‘Diya’ Frank and Elliot ‘Mystery’ Shallow; from the On Tour Calypso Tent – Glenford ‘Azara’ Charles, Grantley ‘Ipa’ Constance, Kenneth ‘Vibrating Scakes’ Alleyne, Robert ‘Patches’ King, Elvis ‘Abijah’ Abbey, Andreide ‘Ranking Bash’ Baptiste; from the Upstage Calypso Tent – Shaunelle Mc Kenzie, Zamfir ‘Man Zangie’ Adams, Vivian ‘I-Come’ Miller, Lornette ‘Fya Empress’ Nedd, Cleopatra Hendrickson and Alphaeus “Observer” Duncan.

The reserves are Fitzroy ‘Bro Ebony’ Joseph and Robby ‘Soharo’ Hackshaw.

Coming out of this Friday’s semi-finals, which will take place at the Victoria Park, 10 calypsonians to compete in the finals will be selected.

The show begins at 8 p.m.

The 10 finalists will come up against reigning calypso monarch Shernelle ‘Skarpyon’ Williams at Dimanche Gras on Sunday, July 6 at the Victoria Park.
