Sun General Insurance here to stay – executive chairman

Executive Chairman of the Sun Group Inc. says that the newest insurance company in St Vincent and the Grenadines is here to stay.

Bernard Weatherhead told guests at the official launch of Sun General Insurance, Tuesday evening at Grenadine House, that he made a commitment when he bought the beleaguered CLICO in 2012, that he was in it for the long term.{{more}}

The Barbadian entrepreneur said that his companies, which include hotels, auto rentals, and travel agencies, among others, were built on a foundation of hard work and commitment, and that same dedication is being conveyed to the insurance.

“We work very closely together as a family, but all of my companies have been successful over the years because we have created a team of people that I am absolutely committed to, and they in turn are committed to me and to the companies.

“I can only say that that has been our success; we make sure at the end of the day that it is equivalent to one big family.

“That is not going to change,” Weatherhead said.

The jovial Chairman indicated that he wanted to ensure that Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves was at the company’s launch, since he considers the prime minister a close and personal friend.

Gonsalves, who attended the function, said that he was happy that Sun General Insurance has decided to set up in St Vincent and the Grenadines, and that he has confidence in Weatherhead and his team.

“Bernie Weatherhead is a well known Caribbean entrepreneur with a wide set of investment portfolios.

“He is a good and honest man, he is a good corporate citizen and he looks out for people. I notice that he has built a good team and he is really an outstanding son of our Caribbean civilization. I want to thank him for coming to invest in St Vincent and the Grenadines with Sun….”

Sun General Insurance offers coverage for homes, vehicles, marine, travel, personal accident, accident and liability, business and commercial and machinery and equipment.

The local office, managed by Yvonne Williams, is located at the Kenmars Plaza in Kingstown.(JJ)
